A 12-ounce house blend cost 75 cents in 1986, at the Seattle coffee bar Howard Schultz ran while Starbucks roasted his beans. He bought Starbucks the next year and put its name on his shops. Tall was not a size yet, just a 25-cent upcharge for a bigger cup.
