$18.50 of every $100 Americans spend on groceries reaches the farm. The other $81.50 pays for processing, packaging, trucking and the store. At a restaurant the farm's share drops to $7.10, because cooking and serving the food is the biggest slice of the US food dollar.

In Canada, farms received 22.8 cents of every grocery dollar in 2021 and 9.6 cents of every restaurant dollar.
