145,000
About 145,000 people were enrolled as of June 2026, and 67% of them have been certified with at least one illness caused by the dust. Cancer is the biggest category. Over the life of the program, 28,131 responders and 28,913 survivors have been certified with a cancer, even though responders outnumber survivors by about three to two.
The federal 9/11 health program still treats 145,000 people. The number keeps growing because the cancers take decades to appear.
