Out of 100 American adults, how many ate every single meal alone on a typical day in 2023?

26% of American adults ate all of their meals alone on a typical day surveyed, up 53% from 2003. Among 25-to-34-year-olds, eating every meal alone has risen more than 180% in those twenty years. Researchers from Gallup, Harvard, Oxford and University College London, writing in the 2025 World Happiness Report, found that how often people share meals predicts their life satisfaction about as well as their income or whether they have a job, across 142 countries.
