Cultivated meat is grown from a small sample of animal cells multiplied in steel tanks of nutrients, so nothing is slaughtered. Eight states have outlawed selling it, in laws written to protect cattle ranchers and the conventional beef industry. The EU has never approved a cultivated meat product at all.
Florida and Alabama banned it in 2024, then Indiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska and Texas in 2025, and South Dakota in 2026. Indiana's and Texas's bans expire in 2027, and South Dakota's runs five years.
